Barney

Barney is an adult (1 year old) hound that came in to our care a few months ago. He is one of six dogs that came to us after their owner had passed away.

We quickly learned that Barney had an urgent need for a dental procedure due to an unknown trauma. Xrays leave us to believe Barney may have been shot before coming into our care. He then spent 3 weeks in a foster home to recover from the procedure and get some socialization. While in foster he was around cats, dogs and horses and did well with all of them. It took a while for Barney to warm up to his fosters and is still nervous and very slow to warm up to new people but not defensive. Barney is still learning basic leash manners due to becoming overwhelmed when taken out on walks.

An ideal home for Barney is one without a lot of visitors. He would do best with adopters who are routine oriented, understand that Barney is not going to want to be everyone’s friend and will require ongoing training and socialization.

Barney requires special counseling due to his behavioral needs. If you are interested in Barney submit an adoption application and complete the form below. A member of our staff will review your information and contact you regarding next steps.
