HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – The Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA is working to connect adoptable pets with homes during PetSmart Charities’ National Adoption Week, running from March 24-30 at the Harrisonburg PetSmart.

RHSPCA recently received a $20,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to help expand its reach and allow more pets to find homes. To celebrate, RHSPCA is offering fee-waived cat adoptions at the Harrisonburg PetSmart throughout the adoption week.

“Partnering with PetSmart gives us that satellite location that may be easier for some people to get to, but it also allows us to move and rotate cats through the shelter and give them some enrichment to go in somewhere else,” said Aaron Cleveland, director of engagement at Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA.

With a goal of finding homes for 50 pets during the event, RHSPCA continues its partnership with PetSmart to help alleviate overcrowding in shelters. Since 2024, their collaboration has led to 69 adoptions, including kittens Archie and Alphie, who were adopted together at a previous PetSmart event.

Adoptions will continue to be available at the PetSmart location year-round. For more information, visit rhspca.org/adopt.
